heart failure, osteoarthritis, and strokes.

Body Mass Inex Numbers for Adults
An example for Adults: If your Height: is 6 feet, 2 inches and weight is 208 pounds
your BMI is 26.7. This indicates that your weight is in the overweight category

BMI equal to or less than 18.5 (Underweight)
A low BMI can indicate that your weight may be low. Low body mass index can
decrease the body's immune system, and may lead to illness. BMI screening results
can help you consult your physician to determine if you should gain weight.

BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 (Normal)
Individuals with a BMI within 18.5 to 24.9 are considered to have the ideal body
weight. An ideal BMI is associated with a lower risk of serious illness. Individuals in
this BMI range are perceived as more physically active people and live a healthier life.

BMI between 25 and 29.9 (Overweight)
A BMI in this range is considered overweight. Individuals in this range will benefit
from regular BMI screening and lifestyle modifications that includes diet and exercise
to lower their risk of developing disease complications.

BMI is over 30 (Obese)
Having a Body Mass Index over 30 is an unhealthy condition and puts the individual
at risk for serious illnesses such as high blood pressure, heart disease, gall bladder
disease, diabetes and some cancers. These individuals will benefit by modifying their
lifestyle. A small weight loss (just 10% of your current weight) can lower the risk of
heart attack or chronic disease.

Body Mass Index Numbers for Children
Example for a girl 13 years old: If your Height is 5 feet, 0 inches and Weight is 105
pounds, your body mass index is 20.5 for this age and 72nd percentile for girls of
this age.

Example for a boy 13 years old: If your Height is 5 feet, 0 inches and Weight is 105
pounds, your body
mass index is 20.5 for this age and 76th percentile for boys of this age.
